Soundation

In today's lesson we messed about with a website called Soundation which allow you to make music of different types like, Jazz, string, or music like deadmou5. I made some music using  a string ensemble and another using the free sounds and bass guitar.

BeepBox

In lesson we all went onto beepbox and made some songs on it so we had an idea on how to use it, so if we wanted to we could use for our games.

http://www.beepbox.co/#5s0kbl00e0ft7a7g0fj7i0r1w1111f0000d1111c0000h0000v0000o3210b4h4y8zcPcPch4h4h4h4h4h4h4h4h4h4h4h4y8zcP4h4p224FzY5j07UjCf0F2fu2C7Gtsc6MP78B0UkNFBS2aMl1qo-7wDyQvszNN0MYE7w8kenuFxTUa1Cv0g000Fy13F3q6S-ws5h9g4zm5cOwGotD11j8U2o005ccga7F3zO512Mxm00

I think this music could be used for a a JRPG area that's in a cave of for a platformer game.

I think the music is synthetic like it's in a factory and that's the noise of the machines but with a beat to it.

I think we need to have an atmospheric feel for our graphic narrative game like music you might here in a cave in other games or just wind, (maybe musical wind)

Logo

I used the first logo sketch that I made as my logo because it looked cool and was using simple shapes. The name I chose to use with this logo is AS Studios using my initials for it.

Photoshop logo.
I used the pen tool to make the center piece of the logo and I used the shape tool to make the circular parts of the logo and used the stroke tool which made it only be the outline, and then increased the thickness which allowed it to be thicker.

Black and white.

The white section of the logo is hard to see because the background turned white when I saved it but it still looks cool like this

blue and yellow

logo sketches

This is from the sketches for the god symbols but I liked it so much I thought it would be good to use as a logo.

Straw hat skeletons.
I made this logo sketch while looking at luffy form the anime one piece I just took aspects from the design of him and made them into my own.

Logo mood board

The logos I like the most are the Haunting Ground logo, Kojima Production, and the Play station

I like the haunting ground logo because of the font, The g in the  haunting part of the title is a cool way of making the dash on the g. I also like the medical symbol they but in the background. If I remember the game correctly there are homunculus which where created by a doctor and are causing trouble for the protagonist by destroying her mental state. The color they use for the writing is like a crimson which could represent blood as there is lot in the game.

The PlayStation logo I think is cool because for so long I never  realized the symbol was just a p and an s standing for PlayStation, I thought that was cool. The color for the logo is also very eye catching with the bright colors they use.
The Kojima production one I like because of the fox to be honest I like this one because I like foxes and I'm a big fan of Kojima's work. The way the fox is drawn though like with the legs it looks a bit like lightning.

Facial expressions and face maths

When drawing facial expressions you don't need much detail all the time, but it is still good to have detail. Using a few lines (wrinkles to show more expression on the face ) I f you where to remove the wrinkles the face would look a bit plane, sometimes though the lines could make the face look old and when your trying to draw a younger character it might not look so you might have to find a way to alter the face so it still shows the expression but makes it look the right age.

Face math is when you add to facial expressions together shown on the top  page of the sketch book using the faces of happiness and fear to create a new expression.

Title screen

In today's lesson we created the title screen for a game which had the measurements of 1920x1080 a standard screen size, and was using the rule of thirds.

we got asked to make 3 different title screens for our game.
The first title screen I made I used the map we use for the game and altered it a bit, I then added text to it using the font Matura MT Script Capitals.

For the the second title screen I grabbed the island from Unreal and added it to Photoshop, I then  grabbed the text from the previous title screen and made it into a sketching mask, and changing the color and position of the text.

I did the exact same thing as the previous title screen but with the map instead of the actual Island, and I didn't have to change the color so it was more visible.

I then decided to play about with the layer style with the second title screen. I then  used Bevel and emboss on the text, and made it so the style was an outer bevel and the techniques was chisel soft.

Rali and I sat down and decided which title screen we where going use for the game and decided on the third title screen I created would be the better one to use out of the title screens designed.
We decided on this one because of how the text was set up, and wasn't obstructing any of the important parts of the map that was shown.

Clipping mask

I first made a Photoshop document and then selected the custom shape tool and selected the speech bubble.
I then made another layer and colored it in an gave it a pretty pattern. I then pressed Alt between layer one and two and the pattern appeared in the speech bubble.

Sketching mask

In the lesson we followed a tutorial on how to make a sketching mask.
The first thing we had to do was get a picture and the then go onto image >adjustments>Desaturate. we then selected the mask Icon.
We then made the foreground black and the background white, we then selected the paint bucket and painted over the image. This filled the layer mask in black. We then changed the fill color into white and then selected the brush tool, and changed it into a bristle brush with the size of 300, I then brushed over the image in a diagonal movement which made the image be revealed and in a sketch format, I then brushed in the opposite direction to create a cross hatch.

Composition

What is a composition? It is a nature of somethings ingredients, or constitutes, how something is made up. for example a poem or a piece of music.

The rule of thirds: it is applied  by aligning a subject with guide line, and intersection points. e.g allowing linear features in the image to flow from section to section.

Use the rectangular grid tool and adjust it to have two horizontal and two vertical dividers.

The map

In this lesson  I created a map that we could use in the game as a display and inventory.

I first made the layout of the design and added a map like color to it as well as adding noise to it, to make it look grainy and worn.

I then added a compass that I made in Photoshop and put in the right top corner.

I then found a free crumpled up piece of paper texture and made it so it would fit and make it the same size and shape.

I then made the top layer which is the texture I made with noise and lowered the Opacity so the crumpled paper would come through but be in the color I made so it had a map like texture.
