The story of the Gods

GREEK

Zeus

God of the sky and ruler of the Olympian Gods. Just like his brother Hades, he drew lots alongside their other brother Poseidon after overthrowing their father, Cronus, on who would succeed him. Zeus won and became supreme ruler of the Gods, as well as the Lord of the sky and rain. His weapon is a thunderbolt, which he hurled at those who defied or displeased him - especially liars and Oath haters. He was married to the Goddess Hera, but he wasn’t the most loyal husband and she became famous for his many affairs.

Using his shield, Aegis, he could create many weather phenomena related to the sky such as storms, tempests and intense darkness.

As the father of the Gods, he made sure that each deity performed their individual duties, punished them for their misdeeds, settled their disputes and acted towards them on all occasions as their all-knowing counsellor and mighty friend.

As the father of man, he took a paternal interest in the actions and well-being of mortals. He watched over them with care; rewarding those who were charitable, told the truth and were fair to others. He would severely banish others for lying and being cruel to others. He was a wise and paternal figure who demanded the wealthy inhabitants of Earth be attentive to the needs of their lower class citizens.

Poseidon

God of the Sea, and protector of all aquatic features. As with Zeus and Hades, his brothers, he drew lots after they overthrew their father, Cronus. Poseidon drew and became the lord of the sea. He was widely worshipped by seamen. He married Amphitrite, a Goddess of the sea.

At one point, Poseidon desired the Goddess Demeter. To deter him, she asked him to  create the most beautiful animal that the world had ever seen. In an effort to impress her, he created the first horse. In some accounts, his first attempt was unsuccessful and he created a variety of other animals on his quest. By the time the horse was created, his love for Demeter had diminished.
His weapon, the trident, could make the Earth shake, causing earthquakes and shattering any objects. He was second in power after Zeus among the Gods. He was considered to have a quarrelsome personality to the Greeks. Combined with his greed, he would get into disputes with other Gods because of his attempt to take over the cities they were patrons of.

Hades

One of the many brothers of Zeus and Poseidon. After the overthrow of their father, Cronus, they drew lots deciding on how they would share the Universe. Unfortunately, Hades drew poorly and ended up with the Underworld, as well as being the ruler of the dead. Despite this, he was not known nor considered as Death itself, as a different God already held this position, one by the name of Thanatos. Hades, greedy just like his brother Poseidon, wanted to increase his subjects and anyone whose deeds resulted in people dying was favoured by him.

The Greeks did not favor Hades, and they were not keen on uttering his name out of fear that they would die before their time. As a result of this, Hades gained another name - Pluto - which comes from the Greek word for wealth, due to precious metals that were mined from the Earth. This resulted in Hades also becoming the God of wealth.

JAPANESE

Amaterasu

Amaterasu is the Goddess of the Sun, as well as the sister of Susanoo and Tsukuyomi. She, along with her siblings, painted the landscape to create ancient Japan.

The three of them were born from Izanagi when he was purifying himself after entering the Underworld, after failing to save Izanami. Amaterasu was born when Izanagi washed out his left eye.

Amaterasu became ruler of the sun and the Heavens, along with her brother, Tsukuyomi, God of the moon and ruler of the night. Originally, Amaterasu shared the sky with Tsukuyomi, her husband and brother. This changed, however, when Tsukuyomi killed Uke Mochi, the Goddess of food. The killing upset Amaterasu, causing her to label Tsukuyomi as an evil God and split away from him, separating night from day.

There was also a longstanding rivalry between Amaterasu and her other brother, Susanoo. Upon being ordered to leave Heaven by Izanagi, he bid goodbye to his sister and proposed a challenge to prove his sincerity when she was suspicious. Each took an object of the other’s and, from it, birthed gods and goddesses. Amaterasu birthed three women from his sword, while he birthed five men from her necklace. She decided that she had won, as his item was the one to produce women.

The two were content for some time, but Susanoo became restless and went on a rampage, destroying Amaterasu’s rice fields and killing one of her attendants in his fit of rage. Amaterasu, now suffering from fury and grief, hid inside the Heavenly Rock Cave, effectively hiding the sun for a long period of time. Eventually, she was persuaded to leave, and Susanoo was punished by being banished from Heaven.

Later, they both amended their conflict when Susanoo gave her the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi sword as a reconciliation gift. When they reconciled, the moon became visible.

Tsukuyomi

God of the moon, and ruler of the night, Tsukuyomi is the brother to both Amaterasu and Susanoo. Birthed when Izanagi washed out his right eye upon escaping the clutches of his enraged wife, Izanami, from the Underworld when he was cleansing himself of his sins upon escaping.

After climbing the celestial ladder into Heaven, he came to live with his sister, Amaterasu, the sun goddess, who later became his wife.

He angered Amaterasu when he killed the food goddess, Uke Mochi. Tsukuyomi was sent by Amaterasu to represent her at a feast once presented by Uke Mochi. The goddess of food created food by turning to the ocean and spitting out a fish, facing the forest and spitting out game and finally turning to a rice paddy and coughing up a bowl of rice. Tsukuyomi was disgusted by this act, as well as that, although it looked exquisite, the meal was made in a disgusting manner, and so he killed her.

In response to this, Amaterasu was so angry after she learned what happened that she refused to ever look at Tsukuyomi again, forever moving herself to another part of the sky. This is the reason that day and night are never together.

Susanoo

A God of the sea and storms, Susanoo is the brother of Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi. They were born from Izanagi, when he washed his face clean of the pollutants of the Underworld. Susanoo was born from the washing of Izanagi’s nose. Susanoo’s weapon was the sword, Totsuka-no-Tsurugi.

There was a long-standing rivalry between Susanoo and his sister, Amaterasu. When Susanoo was to leave Heaven by orders of Izanagi, he went to bid his sister farewell, which caused her to become suspicious. In order to prove his sincerity, Susanoo proposed a challenge, to which Amaterasu accepted.

Each of them took an item belonging to the other and birthed gods and goddesses from it. Susanoo took Amaterasu's necklace and, from it, birthed give men; meanwhile, she birthed three women from his sword. He claimed that he had won the challenge, as it was his item that produced women.

After being content for a time, Susanoo eventually became restless and, in a fit of rage, destroyed his sister's rice fields and killed one of her attendants. Following this, Amaterasu, who was in a state of fury and grief, hid herself inside of the Heavenly Rock Cave, until she was persuaded to leave.

Susanoo was punished by being banished from Heaven. He then descended to the province of Izumo, where he met an elderly couple who told him that seven of their eight daughters had been devoured by the eight-headed dragon, Yamata-no-Orochi, and it was nearing time for their eighth, Kushinadahime.

Susanoo was taken back by this daughter’s beauty, and asked for her hand in marriage. She agreed to be his bride under the condition that he defeat the Orochi. Susanoo then transformed Kushinadahime into a many-toothed comb and stuck it in the august knot of his hair, in order to keep her hidden from the Orochi.

After Susanoo had tricked and defeated the Orochi, he obtained the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi and then built a grand shrine in Izumo where he and Kushinadahime married.

Susanoo then gifted the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi to his sister, Amaterasu, as a sign of reconciliation.

placing rocks

In todays lesson it was just a simple task of where I was given a copy of the Unreal world to place rocks around the main area, using the amazingly good rocks that I made in 3DS max and placing the texture that I made in Photoshop no them.

Animating logo

In today's lesson we went onto Adobe After Effects and animated our logos.

I did one with one with a rotation animation and one with an opacity animation.

Breaking things

In today's lesson I had to make a model of a bit of the trident that would of broken off.

I did this by deleting everything but one spike on the trident model. I then went and got a box and gave it 25 length and width sections, I then adjusted it to the size of the trident cylinder so I could have it at he correct size.
trident spike before it's broken
I then put the box into edit mesh and then selected vertex where I then pulled them all out individually. so it looked rugged and broken.

After that I then used boolean to subtract the box from the cylinder to have the broken effect.

Easter egg

In class I decided to make a little Easter egg where there is a Pokeball hidden in the game somewhere. I decided to this because I was a little bored and I thought it be good to have a little fun in the game. I made it using multiple cylinders, and multiple spheres

Railing

For the railing I separated them into three different categories, The main post, the beam and the support post.

I then went and decided how many sections there where on each group. For the main post I looked at how many boxes it might take to make it and decided on 7 so I could but some design into it. For the beam it was one rectangle which would be shaped to look nice. and then the supporting posts where just going to be rectangles, simple.

looks something like this.

To make the indented bits that make the design I just selected a rectangle gave it 3 segment and then used camper to select the section I wanted to shrink the used the size tool to shrink it.
When I showed this to Mitch he said he wanted to change the banister design completely so it was a chain barrier instead of a wooden banister. So I duplicated the post and put on the other side I then used the torus shape to make a ring and coupled them together to make a chain which linked together from one post to the other.

Rooms

In the lesson I made the main room and the side rooms for the unreal world so Mitch could set things up.

I created both the main room and side rooms using a tube which we made sure where both to the same measurements in height. With the side room it was just a simple cylinder which  I then put a a cube in and used boolean to cut out the section so it had an entrance into it.

With the main room I did the exact same thing as I did with the side room, but instead of using boolean I used pro boolean which allows for multiple sections to be selected and cut out.

Side room

Main room

The main room may look weird but when it attaches to the other rooms it should hopefully look really good and impressive.

Textures

In today's lesson I made textures I started of by making a floor and stone texture.
The stone texture is just the floor texture but brighter and with more cloud on it.

I made the textures by following a tutorial on google and I found it really useful and helpful (link below to tutorial)
http://photoshop-dragon.com/Tutorials/Textures/Photorealistic_Rock.htm

Floor

Stone

as you can see they both look very similar some may say it's laziness but I say I'm using my resources to the max. But it is mostly because my teammate said he liked it more as the floor then the rock texture so I altered it to save time

I also made a marble texture following another tutorial.
http://www.tipsquirrel.com/creating-a-marble-texture-effect-in-photoshop-and-photoshop-elements/

Marble

Jez also showed me how to tile it so I could see if it went smoothly which it didn't so I got the stamp tool and used a random non circular brush to copy areas and but them on the areas that tiled and showed the horizontal and vertical lines.

Soundation

In today's lesson we messed about with a website called Soundation which allow you to make music of different types like, Jazz, string, or music like deadmou5. I made some music using  a string ensemble and another using the free sounds and bass guitar.

BeepBox

In lesson we all went onto beepbox and made some songs on it so we had an idea on how to use it, so if we wanted to we could use for our games.

http://www.beepbox.co/#5s0kbl00e0ft7a7g0fj7i0r1w1111f0000d1111c0000h0000v0000o3210b4h4y8zcPcPch4h4h4h4h4h4h4h4h4h4h4h4y8zcP4h4p224FzY5j07UjCf0F2fu2C7Gtsc6MP78B0UkNFBS2aMl1qo-7wDyQvszNN0MYE7w8kenuFxTUa1Cv0g000Fy13F3q6S-ws5h9g4zm5cOwGotD11j8U2o005ccga7F3zO512Mxm00

I think this music could be used for a a JRPG area that's in a cave of for a platformer game.

I think the music is synthetic like it's in a factory and that's the noise of the machines but with a beat to it.

I think we need to have an atmospheric feel for our graphic narrative game like music you might here in a cave in other games or just wind, (maybe musical wind)

pillar

In class today and yesterday I made a pillar, which we made in 3ds max using bevel, camper, edit poly, and other stuff. I started off with a cylinder and two different sized boxes. With the cylinder I wanted to make them look like pillars from the Greek times.
I also added more height sections.

I used the vertex tool, the camper tool and over tools that I can't remember the name of at the minute.  I also selected the top section of the pillar and rotated in 20 degrees which slanted the indented bits of the pillar.

To do the boxes on top I just made it a 3 height segments, and went on to edit poly and selected the entire middle section and then used camper on it to push it inwards so the was an over and under hang.

3D and drawing

In today's lesson I made the trident we are going to use for Poseidon shrine, and crossed them over each other so they where like a coat of arms.

I also did the sketches for the Greek god symbols and neatened them up so they look nice.

Chalice

In the lesson I decide to start on the 3D Modeling for the game by starting of with the Chalice.

I made on chalice on Saturday after work and around about the time of Midnight.

I also then made one following a tutorial at college today which looks decent.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lsr1KJbMryE&t=41s

I think the first one looks better but others say the second one is better so I decided to use that one (hahahha).

Logo

I used the first logo sketch that I made as my logo because it looked cool and was using simple shapes. The name I chose to use with this logo is AS Studios using my initials for it.

Photoshop logo.
I used the pen tool to make the center piece of the logo and I used the shape tool to make the circular parts of the logo and used the stroke tool which made it only be the outline, and then increased the thickness which allowed it to be thicker.

Black and white.

The white section of the logo is hard to see because the background turned white when I saved it but it still looks cool like this

blue and yellow

logo sketches

This is from the sketches for the god symbols but I liked it so much I thought it would be good to use as a logo.

Straw hat skeletons.
I made this logo sketch while looking at luffy form the anime one piece I just took aspects from the design of him and made them into my own.

Part one of the script.

The Story of Mythos.

Start at the begging of the map with the Intro and one gate that will lead to a small opening which would have ten different paths that would lead to a room of a god which you would have a task to complete and then move on to fix the next one. Each god will have a book but they will not be in the right place as they could be in different rooms which would cause a disruption within the gods and cause them to become very ill.

Each god will have a story you can either listen to and or skip but miss a huge amount of the story and then not be able to fix the problems within the game, if you do this you get the chance to re listen to what the story is but with a cost. The cost of this mistake would be to be chased around by a sort of shadow and you will have a time limit for how long it will take for it to find you. You can choose to make up for you miss play by having to start again but if you do this you will have to lose time within this but one of the books randomly moves somewhere and you’ll have to find it but if you do this you will have to do this book last as it is the only way to do this.

Another way the game can plan out is if you make it so that you can move around and read the books and then you come across a missing page, your task would be to find it within the world and return it but the pages will not have any obvious signs so you would have to take it along and see if it fits but the problem is as soon as the page doesn’t fit it goes back to where it was in the beginning and then you would have to go and look for the right one, also the doors would only open at one a time so that you cannot rush along you will have to put work into finding them with possible fighting off something in the shadows but this little bit would be something that would be if I have time to try and import it into the game.

At the beginning you shall hear a voice that speaks saying;
Thou who enter the world, shall be put to the test of the gods. The job ye seek will have to be taken with courage and confidence as ye must fix the life of the gods. Within ye time the gods have faded into the darkness of thou soul and therefore have to take the time to fix the wrong. Please follower of the gods save them from vanishing ye must hurry before time runs out, if thou does not make the time it will be over and never be able to be put back onto the right path and other followers will lose faith and turn to the wrong path. Good bye for now ye shall hear my voice at the end of ye time in this realm good luck…

Adobe fuse

In today's lesson i played around with Adobe fuse to try and make a main protagonist that the group might like because they are both away doing other things. So i decided to make a male model for the main character as I don't know what they want them to look like. The ideas I have created might be kept or they might be changed to fit the others idea of the character.

Adobe fuse Is a software that gives you a human body which you allows you to choose everything from race, gender, and the un-dead (got to appreciate the living dead).

Once you have the basic outline you can customize the entire body with the smallest details. like how you want the teeth to look, and if they are the hulk or a match stick.

Then you can let your fashionable side come out a choose what clothes you want them to where and what facial hair they might want.

Last but not least like the clothes but not the color or design don't worry you  can change that as well.

So you can make a decent looking human or make a monstrosity (What I did as soon as I found out about all the options).

Portfolio slideshow 2

In  the lesson today I went and fixed the slideshow problem I mentioned on the previous blog where it just showed the pictures individually, instead of the slideshow format. I also added pictures on to the drawing section of the portfolio. I don't think I have anything else to add onto it for the time being but when I do find more stuff it will be added on.

When the link is in a normal format it doesn't allow the slideshow to work but when it is an unprotected script it does.

I wasn't able to do everything I wanted to do for example on the home page where the blue and black boxes are I wanted to make a collage, or a big group picture with the best of my works side by side in one environment. There was also over things I wanted to do like the email button takes you to my email but the computers don't allow that, and the software try's to kill my computer, so that will not be fixed for awhile, I also wished I could put more things on the portfolio section but there are parts that I just didn't have any images to put on them, so there empty for the time being but will have things put on them most likely on a later date.
